The Forgejo domains (forgejo.org, forgejo.com, etc.) are under the custody of Codeberg e.V., a democratic non-profit organization dedicated to hosting Free Software projects.

How is it different from Gitea?

Gitea is controlled by the for profit company Gitea Ltd. Forgejo is a community led soft fork of Gitea with additional features.
